Bio

Michael Spayd

In a word, Michael Spayd life's work is about transformation. He is wired to help people and systems change, beginning with himself. Drawn to cutting edge 'technologies' for coaching organizations, leaders and teams, he has been an organizational change coach and consultant for more than 25 years, working in Fortune 1000 to small businesses. He is specialized in large-scale Agile transformations since 2001, continuing to learn and benefit from many great teachers. Training as an Organizational Systems Coach created a foundation for his approach, as well as in executive coaching, organizational change, systems methods, and consciousness transformation. A Co-active leadership program was particularly influential in his leadership journey, teaching him the difference between intention and impact; his work in systemic constellations has grown him in innumerable ways.

In 2010, he co-founded the Agile Coaching Institute with Lyssa Adkins. He was CEO there until, having accomplished their mission, he sold the company in 2017. He co-founded Trans4mation in 2016 with Michele Madore. His formal credentials include Certified Organization and Relationship Systems Coach (ORSCC), Certified Professional Facilitator (CPF), ICAgile Expert in Agile Coaching (ICE-AC), SAFe Program Consultant (SPC) and Certified Scrum Master (CSM). He and Michele Madore are currently finishing work on a book being published by Addison Wesley in July 2020 entitled Transformation.

Over the course of the last 17 years, Michael has brought together these various strands into a unique approach to coaching, consulting, and teaching Agility within large organizational settings. Along the way, he has coached dozens of Fortune 500 companies and teams, and hundreds of leaders and coaches toward greater holistic team and enterprise-level agility. His book, Evolvagility: Growing an Agile Leadership Culture from the Inside Out, published in January 2019, integrates this rich and varied background and experience.

Session Title

Transforming Agile Management -- A Brief Introduction

Session Overview

Michael Spayd & Michael Hamman will be premiering their new 2-day workshop entitled "Transforming Agile Management" between the conferences in Gurugram and Mumbai. This workshop is meant to give an overview of the basic argument of the class. The most fundamental reason that Agile adoptions do not get the results that people want most is that, while the Agile process is an advanced concept from an evolutionary point of view, management thinking remains rooted in an older paradigm. The VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex, ambiguous) world in which we live demands a complex, Sense and Respond management approach; management training and practice, however, is the Predict and Plan thinking appropriate to a complicated (rather than complex) world. Using a simple version of the Integral Model, we will explore how that Predict and Plan approach shows up from a Leadership, Practices, Structural, and Cultural point of view.
